Do's and Don't's of Home Grease Fires 

Home fires can occur in a variety of ways. In the kitchen, one of the most common, is a grease fire. When a grease fire occurs, it can quickly spread and cause other damages. The smoke can create a ton of damage on it's own. The best way to stay safe is to follow these safety tips. 

We have the Do's and Don't's of grease fires, and always remember SAFETY FIRST: 

Do

  • Do: Turn off the stove or heat source
  • Smother the fire with the pot lid. Without oxygen, the fire cannot survive.
  • Use baking soda to douse the flames. 
  • call 911

Don't

  • Do NOT pour water on it. It will splash the grease, causing the fire to spread.
  • Do NOT move the thing that is on fire. This could burn you.
  • Do NOT use anything other than baking soda.
