Flooding in Richmond, KY

The best piece of advice you can get is to stay safe when disaster strikes: easier said than done. The best way to stay safe is to know safety tips for emergency situations.

One of the most common natural disasters is flooding. When flooding occurs it can cause serious injury or death if you are not precautious.

SERVPRO® of Madison, Rockcastle, Garrard, & Lincoln Counties is here to bring you a few tips on how to stay safe in serious floods:

  • Create a family safety plan and create a family safety kip, keep one in the house and one in your car
  • Turn off main water valves and other switches
  • Have sandbags or other big items to block future water for barriers
  • NEVER try to drive through floodwater
  • NEVER swim through floodwaters
  • NEVER drink floodwaters

The best advice is to stay as far away from floodwater or water that is rising until the storm has passed. For more safety tips, visit your local emergency websites.
