Fire Extinguisher Safety in your Richmond Home

When you have a fire extinguisher in your home, it is best to know how to use it. It will not help you during an emergency if you do not know how to use it. Fires can go from zero to one hundred in seconds. You want to make sure your extinguisher is in a reasonable spot for a quick grab (i.e. kitchen, backdoor, front door).

Once you know where to store it, create an emergency evacuation plan. When the fire has reached too far in your Richmond home, you need to evacuate. After you know where you want to store the fire extinguisher in case of fire and have a safety plan, know how to operate it.

PULL the pin.

AIM the nozzle at the base of the fire.

SQUEEZE the handle to release the fire extinguishing agent.

SWEEP the nozzle from side to side until the fire appears to be out.

Fire extinguishers can help with fires that are small and under control. Keep yours handy and know how to use it to help prevent fire damage to your home.
