Cooking Safety 101

Kitchen fires are one of the most instant fires that can occur in your home. Kitchen fires happen without warning and can get out of control fast.

The best way to combat a kitchen fire that is fast-acting, is to have some tips on hand before you experience this type of emergency.

1. If a fire is in the oven, just close the door. You want to leave the door closed so that it will cut off the oxygen and suffocate the flames to die down.

2. When there is a fire in a pot or pan that is on the stove, you want to get it off the burner safely. Grab an oven mitt or heat safe material to get it off, and then turn the stove off.

3. Please remember to never use water on a grease fire. the water will not help, so remember to try to put a lid on the pot or pan and turn the burner off. Or you can put baking soda on it or smother it with a wet towel.

Another great tip to have in the kitchen to keep fires at bay. You can want keep a fire extinguisher nearby. They even have smaller ones to keep closer and nearby when you are cooking.
